Click Local Plan Examination Notice examination notice. This notice shows a start date and location for the examination. It is expected that a number of hearings (days) will be required for a full examination (e.g. the Cheshire West Local Plan had around 12 hearing days). The public can attend and hearings but can ONLY speak if the individual= and/or group made representations on the Submitted Version of the local plan. The notice was attached to the Cheshire East email copied below.
As of 17th October 2014: the examination of the Local Plan was suspended due to the volume of queries etc. that had been made during the first few weeks of examination. The Planning Inspector is expected to make his initial views on the Local Plan known to CEC shortly. None of this seems to bode well for getting the Local Plan approved in the short term or even medium-term!!!
The Planning Inspector examining the Local Plan has issued his ‘Interim Views on the Legal Compliance and Soundness of the Submitted Local Plan Strategy’ dated 06-Nov-14 which is lengthy and comprehensive. It offers Cheshire East Council three options as to the progressing of his examination of the submitted plan. These are:
(1) To continue the examination on the basis of the current evidence
(2) Suspend the examination so that the necessary additional work can be completed and considered before proceeding to the remainder of the examination
(3) Withdraw the Plan and resubmit if for examination when all the necessary consultation and supporting justification and evidence has been completed.
CEC says “The Council is now considering the implications of the Inspector’s Interim Views and when further information on the progress of the examination is available it will be published. Therefore the hearing sessions, provisionally scheduled to recommence in early December 2014 are further adjourned.”

Cheshire East Council Local Plan Strategy – Independent Examination
The Local Plan Strategy sets out the Council’s case for sustainable economic growth and is the strategy that the Council wants to adopt to manage development in Cheshire East up to 2030. As you will be aware, the Local Plan Strategy and all associated documents, including the comments received during the representation period, were submitted to the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government on 20th May 2014 in preparation for independent examination.
The Cheshire East Local Plan Strategy will now be subject to an independent examination to be conducted by the Planning Inspectorate. Inspector Stephen Pratt BA (Hons) MRTPI has been appointed to conduct the examination to determine whether the Local Plan Strategy is sound.
The Programme Officer for the examination is Miss Kerry Trueman.
The examination is a continuous process running from submission through to the receipt of the Inspector’s report. Part of the process will involve hearing sessions where those invited to attend, will have the opportunity to respond to matters raised by the Inspector. Please note that only those parties who made representations on the Submission version of the Plan during the prescribed period and who were seeking some change to the Plan are entitled to speak. The hearing sessions will however be open to any parties who wish to attend to observe proceedings.
Further details of the independent examination, including the dates and venue, are contained in the public notice, attached to this e-mail.
Yours faithfully,
Adrian Fisher
Head of Strategic & Economic Planning
